New Year, New Challenge, Live ouside the box.
Written by Derek

Happy new year from each of us at Friend Of EduSport. 2010 was an incredible year as we reached over 100 friends at our new Development Days that resulted in an incredible amount of support through fundraisers and new record visitors to our website. Some incredible people supported our work for young people in the past year and it is our pledge that in 2011 we will enhance our support for sport and education in some of the poorest communities around the world.tn_dsc_3082.jpg

We are hoping to build on the success of 2010 and encourage new friends into our family to join us as we work to educate, empower and inspire the next generation of young leaders from Zambian communities. Already 2011 has a fixed date with more than 9 marathon runners signed up for the Edinburgh Marathon. We rely on sponsors, donations and goodwill to support our projects in Zambia and we invite all friends interested in sport and education to join us in 2011. Some of our goals in 2011 include our support for Chawama Sport and Educational Empowerment School, a school for young people that cant always afford the tuition fees many schools require to go to school. We are also hoping this year will engage new parters in our Go Sisters network to further our support to young people living in poverty around the world. As our efforts increase so to does our impact and in reflection of 2010 I would like to say a massive thank you to all those that supported our work. We hope you can join us again in 2011 and help us engage more friends to join us for a very active year. Education is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block toward development and we hope that more friends will help us provide greater opportunity for all in 2011.

As part of our commitment to sport and education in Zambia and around the world Friend Of EduSport will launch a Dare to Dream Sports Grant and a Micro Loan programme later this year. The aim of these programmes are to provide a fund for sports equipment to ensure organisations and/or schools have the equipment required to deliver positive sports sessions for young people. The Micro Loan programme will provide a business start up grant to committed young leaders with an innovative idea and delivering education through sport programmes in their community. Our programmes are funded by the fantastic efforts of our fundraising volunteers and if you have any ideas to help us in any of our programmes do get involved and join our team.

We wish you a fantastic new year, good luck with your new resolutions and we encourage everyone to step outside the box, its incredible whats inside the power of one. Happy New Year.

Written by fiona
emily_at_a_and_k2.jpg Today is World AIDS Day; to mark this day we areaids_ribbon.gif announcing our partnership with Alive & Kicking. Only through global partnerships will progress be made against the devastating effects of the HIV virus. While it is estimated that 33.4million people live with HIV/AIDS and tragically figures suggest up to 1.2million babies were born HIV positive in the last 12months; it is also important to recognize that progress is being made. The infection rates of 33 countries worldwide continue to fall, these include 22 from the Sub-Saharan region. The message of prevention and knowing your status is crucial in the fight against HIV.
