Unsung Heroes
Written by Derek

For the past 4 years volunteers have contributed to make an overwhelming difference in the lives of the young people we support in Zambia and the projects that they work on. With selfless commitment and a passion to make a difference Friend Of EduSport rely on volunteers to make our projects possible.

Earlier toclass_2009.jpgnight (October 5th) I visited a Bingo Fundraiser organised by Ian and Morag Campbell who have contributed greatly in the overall development of our charity and through these fundraisers continue to support our projects for the betterment of education and sport in Zambia. These evenings take place 3-4 times a year and tonight they have raised a still to be confirmed total of £320s.

Its sometimes easy to forget how important a role family and friends play in our lives and what was inspiring tonight was that Ian and Morag, their family and friends partnered with a local bingo club on behalf of Friend Of EduSport in an effort to further support our efforts in Zambia. Working in partnership with the local bingo club ensured that Ian and Morag could concentrate on finding prizes and selling tickets allowing the Bingo Club to run their bingo. In Zambia we are also working with partners at Chawama SEE School to develop a school that creates a safe and empowering environment for young leaders of tomorrow. We cannot achieve that goal without the ongoing efforts of  volunteers. If you are interested in holding a fundraiser for Friend Of EduSport please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thanks to everyone involved tonight. Educate, Empower, Inspire.

Sponsorship Success Story - Cezarin
Written by fiona

Friend of EduSport have been supporting Cezarin since 2008 through our sponsorship programme. We have watched her grow as both a peer leader and a role model to other young women; for those fortunate to meet Cezarin her outgoing personality is one of her most positive attributes. Following the news of her call up to the Zambian National Women's Basketball squad we asked her to give us an update on what has happened since she completed high school last year.

Falkirk's Football Force
Written by fiona

The first football game to take place in aid of supporting projects in Zambia actually precedes Friend of EduSport as a recognised organisation. Back in June 2006 Derek Keir gathered together friends and family to host a game that has now developed into an annual event. The first game took place at Camelon Juniors ground and since 2008 has been played on the hallowed turf of Firs Park (East Stirlingshire’sground for those unfamiliar with Scottish Football).

Chawama SEE Gets Media Attention
Written by fiona

The Zambian government currently spends 136 times more money on every University student than on every Primary School student, making it hard for Primary schools to get anywhere near to the level of education they’d want to be able to offer students.

Chopping the Dreadlock Fundraiser by Rasta Fairy
Written by fiona

Back in June just as the summer was starting one of our supporters was considering something other than what the long days of summer would hold or which holiday choice she should make. She was contemplating her dread locks, their past, their present and their short future.

Eilidh Grant took up a rather personal challenge, one which would raise over £950 for Friend of EduSport.

Ultramarathon: June 26th Afterthoughts
Written by Super Administrator
26th June 9.00am : I am about to attempt to run further than I

Keeping fluids up
have ever done before in my life accompanied by my wonderful supportive girlfriend Kelly Gregory by bike. We have just eaten breakfast. I struggled to eat mine. My nerves seem to be winning the battle at the moment at the thought of what we are just about to attempt.

I was hoping to leave by 8.00am so we would make it to Reading by 1pm however breakfast wasn’t to be served until 8.00am so by the time we left we were an hour behind schedule before we even set off!

Our route was to start in Maidenhead following the Thames path to Reading, this is where we would join the Kenneth and Avon canal which would lead us to Kintbury, our destination.

It was only 9.00am and already the temperature was soaring. I was told earlier at breakfast that the temperature was expected to be between 27/30 degrees! Far too hot to be running any great distance.

We set off at a steady pace following the Thames path, everything was going fine, I knew roughly about 3.5miles into the run we would have to cross over the river, however this simple crossing was to evade us on our first attempt. We went straight by it and carried on for about a mile stopping some locals they soon pointed us back in the right direction, where on the second attempt of trying we found the bridge to cross.

Along the path we continued passing through fields and gate after gate which slowed us down quite considerably. The road bike that Kelly was cycling while I ran had a pannier rack and bags fitted to it, this enabled us to carry a lot of water and food for the day. We were doing this adventure together, no car support or water stations ultimately dependant on each other.
