Happy new year from Friend's of EduSport in America!

Here's a list of fund raising events that have been successful for us over the years:

All sorts of adult/children's soiree's/cocktail parties/dinner parties/balls...etc...always tie in a raffle or silent auction...tying in a theme always makes them a bit more exciting/fun

Best raffle items ever...a small sail boat...all inclusive vacation packages...totally pimped out custom made children's playhouse done in a coastal architectural style...really hot concert tickets....sports event tickets

Calendars...best were of local well known folks from the community ..creatively photographed in their professional setting ...here's the clincher........the folks were totally naked with the exception of professionally related small accessories covering their essentials....did one for the Men of Wickford ..then another the gals of Wickford...teams groups..ex; firemen...police.....locals from the grocery did fun group shots too....the more conservative and generally uptight the "model"/s...the better!!!

Our Projects

Friend of EduSport support locally driven projects to ensure the long lasting sustainability of each effort but also to ensure that development comes from within. In 2009 we facilitated the delivery of 17,500 books as an outcome to a Friend of EduSport survey of local schools which highlighted the need for educational resources and access to a library. Having established 12 community/ school libraries our library project is continuing.

Library Project and Book Drives

According to the World Health Organisation 29% of Zambian adults are illiterate and with many community based schools lacking resources to enhance and breed a reading culture it was identified in a study of local schools that library resources were a significant tool desired by students and teachers to promote learning.

Friend Of EduSport worked with BUSA, EduSport and partners to deliver a shipment of books to support further learning and skill development amongst the adults of tomorrow. Apart from providing basic information about the world around us, reading also provides us with food for thought, new ideas and it encourages us to consider new perspectives. It increases our hunger for knowledge and our thirst to learn more and with this in mind Friend of EduSport are on a mission to support our partner schools in Zambia with the further resources to enhance the opportunities available for young people in Zambia.

Whilst the Millenium Development Goals aspire for universal primary education by 2015 it is part of our partnerships aspiration in the Library Project to make sure that we work towards this goal but also raise the physical resources available for teachers and students that can support a teacher delivering a lesson and help a student learn more. Libraries are a feeding ground to help young people reach their potential and in 2011 Friend Of EduSport will launch their second book drive to further support Zambian schools in their delivery of primary, secondary and further education.

In order to broaden the access to education and sport in Zambia, Friend Of EduSport are working with partners to ensure community schools have access to resources and opportunities that can compliment their very own sport and education offer for their students. Engaging more people in sport and offering an innovative and participatory way of engaging young people in a reading culture sport and education can be combined to deliver unique HIV/AIDS and life skills education and the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle. Through sport and education Friend Of EduSport will help schools develop the infrastructure to host their own library and then improve their sports programme providing a sustained difference to the infrastructure and lives of disadvantaged young people within Zambia and around the world. By harnessing the power of sport and educationwe can all inspire change and transform lives by supporting local communities with the skills and resources that helps young people learn, play, develop their skills and live healthier, happier and safer lives. Classroom coaching

On January 4 2007, International Development Secretary, Hilary Benn, and Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, launched the “World Classroom” , a publication encouraging UK schools to build links with their counterparts in the developing world. The British government has an ambitious programme to link every school and college in the UK to an overseas counterpart by 2010. (read or download the "World Classroom" PDF pamphlet here )

Friend Of EduSport’s link programme between Zambian and UK primary schools is designed to improve the quality of education for all schools involved.
