In order to broaden the access to education and sport in Zambia, Friend Of EduSport are working with partners to ensure community schools have access to resources and opportunities that can compliment their very own sport and education offer for their students. Engaging more people in sport and offering an innovative and participatory way of engaging young people in a reading culture sport and education can be combined to deliver unique HIV/AIDS and life skills education and the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle. Through sport and education Friend Of EduSport will help schools develop the infrastructure to host their own library and then improve their sports programme providing a sustained difference to the infrastructure and lives of disadvantaged young people within Zambia and around the world. By harnessing the power of sport and educationwe can all inspire change and transform lives by supporting local communities with the skills and resources that helps young people learn, play, develop their skills and live healthier, happier and safer lives. Through sport and education please read on to review just a few of goals that we have already achieved and hope to build on in the near future:-
Objectives :-
- To provide a library that will enhance educational opportunities and resources for ten schools (6000 young people) - Objective achieved in December 2009 with delivery of 17500 books for 12 school/community based libraries in Lusaka, Zambia
- Provide training for teachers to manage their library programme and engage a reading culture - Library training workshop took place for the first time in December 2009 and our partners are regularly following up with additionally good practice workshops
- To develop sustained employment and job opportunities for young adults - We are now looking toward a micro loan project to support a pathway for peer leaders to develop their own ideas for their future. Friend Of EduSport are now looking for a project manager to help us fund this opportunity for young people and their dreams.
- To provide annual capacity building workshops for teachers and sports coaches - Friend Of EduSport have facilitated capacity building workshops every year since we were established in 2007
- To work towards a high quality platform that supports youth peer leaders in their sport and educational endeavors - Chawama Sport and Educational Empowerment School is one of the projects we are currently raising funds for to work towards high quality schooling for young people in Zambia.
- The further education, training and development of Youth Peer Leaders working towards an inclusive programme for all in communities we support including sports sessions, life skills sessions, ability counts sessions (for people with special needs and disabilities) and elite athlete training throughout communities.
- Enhance access to books, resources and the world wide web - step one has begun and we are building on our initial success with a new library project in 2011
- Increase access to Information, Support and awareness raising for the community
