In light of changes to my professional capacity since I have started my
work for UK Sport and to allow for growth and expansion of Friend of
EduSport to meet its aims I have decided to step down as Director. The
Friend of EduSport Board of Trustees have accepted my decision and in
light of this have agreed to adjust the management structure of the
charity.
It is firstly important to acknowledge the work of Derek and his drive taking the charity forward, this change in management structure will allow him the opportunity to be empowered by overall decision making and overseeing all developments.
I intend to continue in my role of sponsorship coordinator and manage this aspect of work unchanged, however my position with regard decision making on other aspects of the charity would be reduced. I will still sit on the Board at this time but I would not hold the overall decision making position. I feel that two directors inevitably cannot equally distribute the role and having one person at the head of the organisation will bring clarity and an increased professionalism to our activities.
I am also conscious of introducing the other members of our Board and highlighting the considerable work they have been conducting since we started. Hazel and Tom MacDonald have been invaluable in their roles as Trustees and have been instrumental in us creating a success fundraising events calendar. Rona McIntosh joined the Board following her experiences in Zambia as part of the UK Sport IDEALS project in July 2007, since this time she has provided seemingly endless energy to our efforts and has single handed taken the responsibility for Chawama Sport and Educational School support, the progress made by the school is testament to the work being put in to that partnership. Lyson Zulu provides a Zambian voice to our Board, brings invaluable insight to guide our decisions and has been a valuable asset through the delivery of educational workshops to schools, universities and support groups in the UK. Our newest member of the Friend of EduSport management is Anne Stokes. Anne has been working with Derek to secure books and bring the Sports Education Village to life from proposal to reality, she has been actively cataloguing the thousands of books which are now in storage.
I would like to say extend my sincere gratitude for all the support we have received, I look forward to updating you further on the progress being made by Friend of EduSport. All that remains to be said is congratulations to Derek on his recent gradation as a PE teacher, I am sure some of these new skills will be invaluable as he takes up the role of Director.
All the best!
Fiona
