Chawama SEE (Sport and Educational Empowerment) School was founded in 2007 on the inspiration of 3 committed teachers. The school was initiated by a £500 ‘Dare 2 Dream’ grant when Friend Of EduSport was set up and it has experienced a number of major land marks and developments throughout its short history.

The school was set up in order to provide education for children and young people living in Chawama compound who could not otherwise afford school fees. The school also encourages it’s young people to be active and positive role models and leaders in the local community through sports leadership initiatives and coaching programmes that are run within the school as well as outreach programmes in the local community. The school works in close partnership with the EduSport Foundation to achieve its sporting objectives.

Chawama SEE started out with two pupils and has grown to over 125 and there is much more room for expansion, however in the past we have been restricted on the number of pupils that can attend classes due to the size of our school and classrooms. This has resulted in a number of moves for the school to increase the classroom size and accommodate the increasing number of pupils.

We have a strong staff base that are committed to the school which is led by the headmaster Jack Malambo and a number of the teachers have a high level of experience in teaching as well as  coaching sport and PE.

Friend of EduSport has high hopes for the future development of Chawama SEE school and we are on the brink of investing a significant amount of money to purchase a plot of land and structure for the school. This will enable us to increase the sustainability of the school as the money that is raised for Chawama SEE in the future can be used to further develop the school and it’s equipment rather than paying for rent.

It is our shared vision to set a precedence for schools in Chawama, and for Chawama SEE to be the first of its kind to support and educate young role models and peer leaders as well as providing sports development and coaching programmes to empower the pupils and enhance their life skills and opportunities for the future. Once the school has been purchased and is running effectively, our long term aim is to expand and build upon this structure with an orphanage, library and food programme.

Our long term vision is to create a sports education village on the Chawama SEE site with a library, sports leadership programme and sports facilities that the community of Chawama can access and benefit from. It is our vision to crate a centralised hub to develop and empower young people through sport and education and increase opportunities for the wider community of Chawama.

Help us support the headteacher Jack Malambo in developing the school to reach its potential, sponsor him for just £10/month and make a difference to lives of over 100children.
