Dare 2 Dream: Creating Opportunities and Producing Results

It was a proud day for Friend of EduSport when we celebrated our first college graduate under our Dare 2 Dream programme. Congratulations to Vincent Banda on receiving his Diploma in Public Administration!

Vincent was the first recipient of our Dare 2 Dream award in 2008. The programme was established to allow youth who have completed school to make progress towards their ambition, be it further education or starting a business.

To date we have allocated four Dare 2 Dream awards. This is an area we are extremely proud of and one we hope to expand in the future.

What about the other Dare 2 Dream recipients?

Bestin Phiri produced his first music album which was sold in the UK and Zambia. Most weekends Bestin can be found playing at various venues across Zambia on the same line up as many of Zambia’s biggest names in music.

Dinah Mattakah (Toxie) is currently in her final year at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka studying a diploma in Social Work. In return for her educational support provided by Friend of EduSport, Toxie volunteers at Chawama SEE School and continues to provide support and be an invaluable positive role model to many peer leaders in the Chawama compound.

Internship

Finally, one of our biggest developments in 2010 has been the creation of an internship to allow experienced peer leaders an opportunity to gain professional experience and progress their skills in sport for development.

This year we are delighted that the intern position has been awarded to Kelvin Chasauka, from Kalingalinga compound. Kelvin has been provided a one year contract to work as part of the EduSport Outreach Team and also provide support to Friend of EduSport’s projects in Lusaka.
