At the core of our work is the belief in the power of sport and education to change lives.
We support youth to become peer leaders to deliver sporting opportunities, educational programmes (including reading programmes and to disseminate information about HIV/AIDS) and to provide positive role models to the children in their communities. Through a people centre empowerment approach we have seen considerable positive development as the young leaders are completing school, some are attending college but importantly they all gained opportunities they would not otherwise have been afforded. Our aim is to provide a platform through education and sport for young people from underprivileged communities that are identified by our Zambian partner organisations .
EduSport Foundation
Founded in 1999, EduSport is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that utilises sport and education to assist development within communities, specifically working with young people. As one of the first NGOs in Zambia, EduSport has developed a reputation for its developmental practise and its sport programmes.
The key to the success of EduSport lies in the organisation's ethos of empowerment. Working with communities to identify their wn needs and establish a development plan, each community delivers its own activities through committees and is supported with expertise and resources from EduSport.
EduSport’s founding father, Oscar Mwaanga, fostered the ‘peer leader‘ approach. Through his work in schools he recognised the potential of young people with ability, inspiration and energy to promote positive development in their community. The EduSport Foundation offers youth across Zambia (currently working in 5 of the 7 Provinces) to develop their leadership skills and sporting abilities through their training pathway. Trained youth delivery activities in schools and establish community teams to further hone their skills.
A core objective of the organisation, however, is also to help stem the AIDS/HIV pandemic, which is a widespread problem across the Africa subcontinent. This is achieved by integrating health/awareness information into games for young people in the communities. Many of the young people are unable to afford to attend school so literacy levels are low but more problematic is the lack of availability of information advising the community how to protect against diseases such as HIV, cholera and malaria. Peer leaders and EduSport activities can reach out to disadvantaged communities and out-of-school youth to ensure that more people are aware of prevention methods and raise awareness of critical health information.
Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA)
a registered community based organisation (CBO) based in the community compound of Bauleni, Lusaka. BUSA works with a number of NGO’s to deliver an extensive sport for development programme.
It has developed an excellent reputation, through the work of its founder Kaluba Kangwa, for its football development. BUSA offers youth the opportunity to play netball and korfball to broaden participation.
Kalingalinga EduSport
a registered CBO formed in 2009. Kalingalinga is one of the most active and established community programmes in the EduSport network. It consistently produces active and committed peer leaders; most notably Lyson Zulu, Kelvin Chasauka, Cezarin Phiri to name just a few.

" Once there was a little boy who was walking down the beach. On that particular day there were thousands of little star fishes thrown up on the sandy beach at the high tide line. The little boy decided to start throwing the little fishes back into the ocean. While he was doing that, an old man came over to him and said to the boy, " What difference is what you are doing going to make, can't you see that there are too many of them?". The little boy got one fish and threw it back into the ocean and said, "This one sir. This one will make a difference."
