Sponsorship Success Story - Cezarin

Friend of EduSport have been supporting Cezarin since 2008 through our sponsorship programme. We have watched her grow as both a peer leader and a role model to other young women; for those fortunate to meet Cezarin her outgoing personality is one of her most positive attributes. Following the news of her call up to the Zambian National Women's Basketball squad we asked her to give us an update on what has happened since she completed high school last year.

A lot has happened in the last year. From September 09 to March 10, she was undertaking an internship in EduSport’s Livingstone office as an assistant co-ordinator to the Go Sisters project. Not long after returning to her home in Lusaka, she received a call up to theZambian Under 20’s girls squad.  “It’s been an amazing year. So much has happened which will stay with me forever”. Cezarin is a peer leader at EduSport’s site of Kalingalinga where she has been conducting PE sessions with local schools andassisting in specialist sports training for over five years now.  Although amazing opportunities are opening up everyday, it is her work with EduSport that has brought her to the position she’s currently in. Working with children in Kalingalinga using education through sport has brought her an abundance of confidence and massively helped her with playing basketball.  “I got the call-up when playing for The RimOilers, where I’ve been playing for the last year when I was approached by thecoach of the Under 20’s Zambia girl’s team. He asked me to play for them on account of the confidence and skills I was showing in games”.

The call up wraps up a successful year for Cezarin who prior to this was working on the EduSport Go Sisters programme on an internship. Successful in her application for the position, Cezarin was offered the opportunity to spend six months in Livingstone. She says the placement has helped her develop massively as a person and a peer leader.

Her position required her to conduct introductory workshops for the programme as well as hold Parent Forums to gather feedback from parents about their children’s progression and development and how the Go Sisters programme is helping. The internship was Cezarin’s first time away from Lusaka and she had to adapt and grow as a person and become more responsible.

“I’ve developed a lot in terms of knowledge and confidence. I’m now able to stand in front of large groups of people and conduct workshops for EduSport and the Go Sisters programme”.

I consider  this last year to have been hugely successful for me personally, I would like to  acknowledge the work of Friend of EduSport who assisted me in gaining my education, the sponsorship programme paid for my tution fees for my last year at high school.  I have been fortunate to be given continued support so I can achieve my goals.
