My name is Sarah Chungu; I live in Lusaka, Zambia Chawama inparticular. I just graduated from high school.
I first started playing football when I was in grade six as a goal keeper, for Chawama EduSport later was selected to play for the EduSport main Central Action team.
Being active in sports activities as a footballer and a youth peer leader, I was offered a school sponsorship during my grade eight from Friend of EduSport UK. Two years later during my high school, Friend of EduSport extended their sponsorship which was of great help as it allowed me to attend a good school, Libala High School. Without this support this would nothave been possible due to family circumstances.
In 2010 Friend of EduSportintroduced me to the person who had sponsored me through school, the person who had allowed
me to achieve my dream which was to complete my high school. That person was Clare Farrow, a goalkeeper from England. It was a pleasure to meet Clare; the impact of being able to say thank you in person was quite overwhelming. Clare even visited my house in Chawama to understand where I was coming from.
Up until this point I have been fortunate to have had these opportunities. Then, because of my involvement with the EduSport family, I won a scholarship in football studies through the British Council at Wey Valley College in the UK. I was due to start studying in September 2010. Friend of EduSport continued with their helping hand financially to help me in obtaining a UK student visa, unfortunately on this occasion it never worked out.
Nevertheless, I haven’t given up on being active in sports activities and ambitious regardless of what happened with my trip, maybe my input and skills is greatly needed where I am.
Being in the EduSport family and being sponsored hasn’t beena one off thing, meaning that the benefits were not only in school or in sport, but in all aspect of life. Its now a way of my life.
Sports activities are good because they make dreams come true for the under-served in society. I want to express my sincerest ‘Thankyou’ to Friend of EduSport for the support and impact, not just on me but also everyone else that has benefited from their helping hand. Continue with the same spirit in supporting education in Zambia for the under-served youths and communities.’
God bless.
