Our Impact
In April 2007 Friend Of EduSport became a registered Charity with the Office of Charities Regulator for Scotland. Since then we have helped and supported people and projects linking potential with opportunity.

Facts & Figures

  • CSEE School started with 2 pupils, currently has 180students
  • 54 young leaders benefitted from sponsorship programme over last 3 years
  • 7 peer leaders completed grade 12, gained leaving school certificate thanks to our sponsorship programme.
  • 1 College graduate in Zambia, 1 more sitting final examinations this year
  • 1 University graduate in UK, 1 due to complete June 2011
  • Creation of internship position, our first charity employee based in Lusaka, Zambia
  • 17,500 books delivered to establish 12 community/school libraries
  • Over 100 new volunteers engaged in our work in the UK in the past 12months
  • Go Sisters World Series engaged 240 participants in the UK over 3 years, 40 of which were involved in our school programme in 2010.
  • 3 community coordinators benefit from an allowance to support peer leader and community sport development.
  • 6 Dare2Dream grants awarded to date.

Impact & Development

Here is a brief overview of our impact and development so far:
 

2007

  • Gained registered charity status
  • 11 peer leaders selected for our sponsorship programme
  • Launch partnership with EduSport Foundation, Zambia
  • Conducted 6 week workshop programme with 40young leaders and teachers in Chawama
  • Chawama SEE School initiated with Dare 2 Dream grant, started with 2 pupils
  • Supported Sharon Museke to continue inspiring girls to be active in sport.

2008

  • Supported Bestin Phiri with Dare2Dream grant to produce first album
  • Supported Vincent Banda with Dare2Dream grant to enrol at National Institute of Public Administration.
  • Supported Dinah ‘Toxie’ Mattakah with Dare2Dream grant to enroll at University teaching Hospital for diploma in social work.
  • Launched Go Sisters World Series, 30 participants took part in a mixed 11 a side game in London and 3 games in Lusaka.
  • Launch partnership with Bauleni United Sport Academy, Lusaka
  • Partnership with Big Yellow Storage company to store donated books for library project in conjunction with ST John’s School, Marlborough
  • 27 peer leaders supported through school by our sponsorship programme
  • Supporting 2 community coordinators
  • Welcomed Lyson Zulu to the UK to study at Bath University, supported with a Dare2Dream grant.
  • 3 Friend of EduSport teams enter Edinburgh’s Hairy Haggis Marathon relay event. Congratulations Andy, Clare, Jouni and Fiona on their victory.

2009

  • Successfully delivered 17500 library books to Lusaka in partnership with EduSport, BUSA and the Ministry of Education.
  • 30 peer leaders sponsored across 3 communities
  • Launch of ‘Development Days’ to engage volunteers and share our projects with a new audience. 1st Development Day held at Westminster City Hall, 10th October 2009 with 33 in attendance.
  • Go Sisters World Series saw 12 mixed 5 a-side teams battle out for the title. The event saw over 100 participants including players from Zambia, South Africa, Australia, Brazil and Senegal. Caroline Chilton’s team took the trophy home after a tight final game!
  • Our Director, Derek, runs 100miles from London to Bath. The first 100mile monster marathon for FoE.
  • Welcomed Annie Namukanga to the UK to study at Loughborough College with a Dare2Dream grant.

2010

  • 2 School and community libraries have now been established, children are reading daily thanks to the books supplied. Phase 2 of the project is now underway with the hope of creating a reference library with a focus on sport, education and health.
  • 36 peers benefitting from our sponsorship programme.
  • Development Days in Stirling and Bath play host to the Mayor of Bath and engage 60new volunteers in our work.
  • Partner with Alive & Kicking, Zambia. Have 10 football printed with our logos and health messages.
  • Our first college graduate, Vincent Banda Diploma in Public Administration.
  • Support through sponsorship 3 community coordinators to provide support for peer leader development and community sport.
  • Launch Friend of EduSport intership to be based in the EduSport Foundation, a year contract for a peer leader to gain professional experience and develop administration skills. Kelvin Chasauka appointed 1st intern in February 2010.
  • Fiona Campbell & Clare Farrow attempt Lusaka to Livingstone by bike in partnership with ZamBikes and Jollyboys Hostel in Livingstone. An incident stopped this challenge but it sparked 3 more fundraising events to complete the challenge.
  • Jack Malambo becomes full time head teacher at Chawama SEE, supported by Friend of EduSport.
  • CSEE school has 6 sponsored peer leaders attending examination grade classes and a total of 180pupils.
  • Emily Reynolds joins our Board of Trustees.
  • Launch new website that reflects achievements of charity and displays its progress as an organisation.
