Library Project 2011
tn_DSC05010.JPGAccording to the World Health Organisation 29% of Zambian adults are illiterate and after a review of local schools in Lusaka, schools identified a lack of learning resources to enhance and breed a reading culture for increased learning. At this point the Library Project was born and to date has established 12 community and school based libraries with some schools delivering adult literacy classes as a result of their new library.

Friend Of EduSport worked with BUSA, EduSport and partners to deliver a shipment of books to support further learning and skill development amongst the adults of tomorrow. In the photo above peer leaders are training their teams in preparation for a Chimbompwa Football Tournament where books were presented to the winning team as a prize.

Apart from providing basic information about the world around us, reading also provides us with food for thought, new ideas and it encourages us to consider new perspectives. It increases our hunger for knowledge and our thirst to learn more and with this in mind Friend of EduSport are on a mission to support our partner schools in Zambia with the further resources to enhance the opportunities available for young people in Zambia. inside_csee.jpgUsing sport to engage young peoples imagination is sport for development in action.
Whilst the Millenium Development Goals aspire for universal primary education by 2015 it is part of our partnerships aspiration in the Library Project to make sure that we work in our capacity towards this goal but also raise the physical resources available for teachers and students that can support a teacher delivering a lesson and help a student learn more. Libraries are a feeding ground to help young people reach their potential and in 2011 Friend Of EduSport will launch their second book drive to further support Zambian schools in their delivery of primary, secondary and further education.

In December 2009 Friend of EduSport delivered 17,500 books to Lusaka and its surrounding communities to establish 12 libraries in a project that continues to be recognised in schools across Lusaka.  If you are interested in running a book drive in your school, office or home to benefit Friend of EduSport, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it There are many roles to play in a book drive from fundraising, collecting of books to delivery and preparing shelves not to mention the challenge of coordinating the books in preparation for a school to best benefit from their new resource.
