Snowed-in Successes!

It’s been an eventful week for Friend of EduSport. Firstly we would like to congratulate our Director, Derek Keir, for winning a Shell Live Wire grant (http://www.shell-livewire.org/) to host a conference on ‘Inspiring Development’ for young people in Scotland. This grant reflects a passion and drive that has helped Friend of EduSport develop since 2006 – a huge congratulations Derek and a well deserved acknowledgement of your work’s potential!

Unfortunately our Development Day in Scotland due to take place tomorrow has had to be postponed; the snow is simply unrelentless and travelling is hazardous. But thanks to the determination of the organising committee (Andrew Jenkin, Hayley Barr and Caitlin Thomson) we already have the 12th February in our diaries. We hope those who were due to attend will be able to join us in Februaryinstead.

The week’s highlight has been the announcement of our partnership with Alive and Kicking, we will be hosting Go Sisters World Series community event on 7th May with footballs made in Africa, by Africa, for Africa. We are looking forward to learning from our new partners and working together on future events and campaigns.

edinburgh_marathon.jpgOur events calendar for 2011 is already filling up with early entries from Emily Reynolds and family taking on the London to Bath cycle that has been dubbed ‘Reynolds Rally’. We wish them all the best in February! We have been delighted by the response from our supporters for entries to our team for the Edinburgh Marathon/Half marathon and Hairy Haggis Relay. So far we have 5 marathon runners confirmed, 2 for the half marathon and 1 team entered. If you’d like to be involved, don’t delay in signing up as places to go quickly. Decide on your distance and entertoday at http://www.edinburgh-marathon.com/ . If running isn’t your thing, details of our Go Sisters World Series can be found on our website and all our events are detailed in our events calendar.

Lastly some new additions to the FoE family. We would like to congratulate Hazel and Tom MacDonald, both former Trustees of the charity, on the birth of their twins Caleb and Esme.
