Youth Peer leader for EduSport Jacqueline Chola wants to be a Journalist.

When Friend Of EduSport visited Chawama Community in 2007  to support a peer leader training initiative we learned that Jackie had moved out of her home due to her mother’s second marriage. Jacqueline’s step father decided he did not want Jacqueline as a daughter and chased her from the family home.

Jackie’s mother arranged for Jackie to stay with her aunt, her mother’s sister. However, Jackie’s mother, like so many in Africa, was subsequently diagnosed with HIV. Jackie felt scared and alone as she was not able to take care of her mother.

These feelings intensified when her aunt could no longer support Jackie in school. Jackie’s Aunt was already funding three of her own children through school but did not have sufficient  income to support Jackie as well.

Isolated from her mother and chased from school when she was unable to pay fees Jackie decided to attend Friend Of EduSport’s Peer Leader training initiative.  Here she met our directors who were distressed to learn of her difficult situation and who  were determined to help this fifteen year old girl. By the following Monday morning Jackie was back in school with help and support from Friend Of EduSport.

A Friend Of EduSport sponsor from Scotland is now sponsoring Jackie though our sponsorship programme and is helping her to keep alive her ambition to be a journalist when she leaves school.

Perhaps one day this story will be finished by her own hand and may even make the best seller list.

You, also, can sponsor a young person like Jaquie by subscribing to our sponsorship programme.

Please help another young dream become reality.
