Go Sisters World Series - Zumba for Zambia (American Leg)
"We first learned about the efforts of Friend of EduSport organisation from Derek Keir, cofounder of the Friend of EduSport Charity, as he passed through our hometown during his Pedal Pilgrimage across America. After learning about the work that EduSport does, we decided we would like to get involved. To us, the brilliance of EduSport’s philosophy is how it uses a shared interest in sports to bring people from all over the world together to foster the social, academic and economic growth of Zambian individuals and communities as a whole. We decided to use this strategy to bring people together in our own community in the form of a fundraiser to benefit EduSport. After conducting a bit more research on the goals of the Friends of EduSport Charity and EduSport Programs, we came across the Go Sisters! Program and were inspired.
As a group of girlfriends all in their late teens, the idea of organizing a fundraiser by women to benefit women really resonated with us. We have decided to create a program called “Zumba for Zambia,” which will offer one Zumba-inspired fitness class per week over an eight week period during our summer vacation. Zumba is a type of fitness program that incorporates latin music and dance moves into a fun, upbeat workout. These Zumba classes will be taught at our local high school in North Kingstown, RI in the United States and will cost $6 per class, with all proceeds being donated to the Friends of EduSport Charity. We are still in the planning stages of our fundraising event, but we look forward to seeing the event come to fruition and hopefully be a huge success!"
