The Go Sisters World Series 2011 is well underway! Read on to find out an event held by 1st Polmont Brownies.

Go Sisters 2011 kicked off by celebrating International Women’s Day centenary on 8th March.

One of our first events took place on 10th March when 1st Polmont Brownies hosted a special event to promote “inspiring girls”. To allow for an activity-filled session the Brownies hired a hall at St Margaret’s Primary School, where the caretaker made us feel very welcome setting the tone for a positive event.

As 5.30pm approached the hall filled with 18 7/8year old girls in their colourful brown and yellow Brownies uniform eager to get started. After an official welcome and traditional opening song the Go Sisters session got underway. A huge noise was created as the Brownies embraced the African games warm up with considerable enthusiasm. This was followed up with a few football drills with the event culminating in a penalty shoot out against the Leaders: Owlet, Eagle Owl and Wise Owl.

The Brownies Go Sisters event was enjoyed by all and was a great start to our Go Sisters World Series this year.

Of course the Go Sisters World Series is designed to promote and encourage the empowerment of women and girls through sport, while also raising awareness of some of the challenges faced by females across the world. At the end of the session one of the girls exclaimed “who says girls can’t?” This is surely evidence of female empowerment in action!
