We've heard a lot about the London marathon today - but how about a fencing marathon?!
Towards the end of March, the fencing club at St Andrews University held a fencing marathon. The squad took it in turns to fence non-stop for over 9 hours between 1pm until about 10:30pm.
Although tiring, Fencing Secretary Katie DeKeizer assured us that it was great fun, and hailed the event a roaring success:
'We had amazing turn-out from our own fencers, with nearly all of the club (and certainly all of the 1st team) being there towards the end. We also had a couple of really extraordinarily committed beginners who, despite only ever having fenced once or twice before, stayed for the entire marathon and fenced against some of the best members of the team'
'As a team-building event, the marathon went really well, and now we have a handful of beginners who we all know are very committed to the team'
The club are very kindly donating half of their proceeds to Friend of EduSport, and as well as raising much-needed funds, the day was a great opportunity to promote the sport throughout the University.
