Joanna Jamieson tells us how the Go Sisters do it, Aussie style
The Go Sisters World series was celebrated in true Australian style with bowls, barefeet and beverages. By having our feet in the grass and fun in the sun, the charity event raised awareness to over 50 people and raised funds of over $300.
The afternoon began with conversations over a tasty lunch about the work that Friend of Edusport does and the aim of this particular event. Everyone was chatting about girl equality and empowerment, the steps that can be taken towards achieving this, and what this means for woman in different parts of the world.
Full to the brim with food, we rolled on to the bowling green and split into teams. Although there were some star players, to say that we were all naturals would be exaggerating somewhat! We collected many bowls back that inadvertently wandered on to other people's rinks and at one point it looked more like a ten-pin bowling event. Regardless of skill set, everyone really enjoyed this relaxed event and happily played for several hours in the beautiful sunshine.
The event coincided with the Australian Mother's Day so for those who were unable to come along, they were celebrating important women in their own personal way. The event was highlighted to many people who could not join in on the day and as news of the charity and event travelled, we have gained interest from people who can't wait to participate in whatever next year's quirky Aussie Go Sisters event may be. Anyone for fair dinkum surfing? Or Dingo Bingo?
