FoE is the frontrunner when it comes to fundraising challenges!

It has been a busy month with FoE runners taking on various challenges. Since mid April we have had 10 runners complete marathon distance events.

The May Madness began with Becky Wall taking on the Boston Marathon Challenge. A seasoned runner, Becky posted an incredible time of 3hours 29minutes to cover the 26.2 mile course. Even more impressive is the fact this was achieved with just 5 weeks training under her belt. In the process, Becky also managed to raise £525 towards Chawama SEE School. As a school teacher herself, Becky values the importance of  quality education!

Next on the start line was Callum Graham, who, aged just 16, is one of youngest fundraisers. Callum signed up for the Dumyat Hill race which covers a distance 7.8km - but includes a 440m climb (pictured above)! Scottish Hill Racing describes it as “probably the most scenic and least boggy of the Bog and Burn races”. Callum’s aim was to raise enough funds to support a teacher in Zambia; however he has gone one better and will be supporting both a teacher and a peer leader after exceeding his fundraising target. As extra motivation on the day, Callum also raced his Dad over the course. Although this year father Ian triumphed in the 'Graham challenge', we are confident that next year we will see the apprentice beat the sorcerer!

Then came Emily Paterson (pictured below), a former IDEALS student who had been inspired by the work done inZambia by the EduSport Foundation whilst on placement back in 2006, entered the Great Manchester Run.  With a Board who is made up of former IDEALS students, we are always delighted to hear of ex-IDEALS students reconnecting with the projects in Zambia and going that ‘extramile’ to make a difference!
