Fundraising support from our Transatlantic Friends!
It’s great to see the impact Friend of EduSport is having around the globe. We’ve recently heard about the efforts of a group of enterprising students from North Kingstown High School, Rhode Island. With the help of graduates Kate Miller and Chloe Robitaille, current students Tess Robitaille, Victoria Andreozzi, Michaela Carnevale, and Katie Callahan will be launching ‘Zumba for Zambia’ for their friends, family, and local community.
Zumba is a Latin-inspired programme that incorporates dance with fitness. The girls have planned to run an 8-week programme at Focused Fitness, Rhode Island. Extra special thanks go to Donna Sabatoni, proprietor of Focused Fitness, for very generously allowing the girls to hold classes at her facility.
So where did this enthusiastic group of young ladies get their inspiration from? Last year, FoE founder Derek Keir undertook a ‘Pedal Pilgrimage’. Starting in Washington DC, Derek headed up to the northern-most tip of Maine, then down to the southern-most tip of Florida in Key West.
Derek hoped that the 2543 mile pedal pilgrimage would raise funds, but predominantly awareness, for Friend of EduSport. This mission had the desired effect, when a chance meeting with Chloe and Tess Robitaille allowed Derek to share some of FoE’s work with the pair. Inspired, they took action.
Zumba for Zambia begins on Monday 27 June, and will cost $5 per session. Each of the girls have set themselves a personal fundraising target of $120 – enough to school a child in Zambia for a year. The group can be contacted at

We’d like to thank Kate, Chloe, Tess, Victoria, Michaela and Katie for all their effort and enthusiasm so far – and watch this space to hear how they get on!
