FoE invited to the House of Commons
Last week was Small Charity week, and as the only current London-based Friend of EduSport board member, I was privileged to go and represent the charity at Westminster.
We were invited to attend Policy Day event, hosted by the FSI – a ‘small charity who help small charities’ by arming them with the best learning opportunities to secure a sustainable future. The charity was founded by Emma Harrison CBE, ‘Secret Millionaire’ from the Channel 4 TV show. Also in attendance was Dr Roberta Blackman-Woods, Labour MP and Shadow Minister for Civil Society.
Dr. Blackman-Woods kicked off the reception with an introduction about Britain’s thriving small charity sector, and the important role that these organisations play in society. She was followed by Pauline Broomhead, CEO of the FSI, who presented their Small Charity Sector Skills Survey Report which outlined professional skills often lacked by charity volunteers.
Overall, the event was insightful and a great opportunity to meet representatives from a wide array of small UK charities. The very fact that FoE received an invite to this prestigious event is a fantastic recognition for the hard work of our supporters over the past few years, and a great opportunity to begin to think about how we can grow in the coming years!
