Our Sporting Inspirations: who are they, and what are they up to?
Friend of EduSport is privileged to have the support of a whole host of professional athletes, who participate in sports as diverse as canoeing to football. You can read more about all our athletes by clicking the ‘Sporting Inspirations’ tab, but here’s a quick update about what some of them are up to:
After winning the national men’s cross-country championship last week, New Zealand-based Matt Smith can now claim to be national champion on three surfaces; the win means that Smith has now won national competitions on road, track and cross-country. You can read more about Matt’s phenomenal success in an article here
Closer to home, our UK athletes have been enjoying success. At the weekend, world silver medallist and 2008 Olympian Fiona Pennie competed on the London 2012 WhiteWater course in preparation for the Olympic canoe slalom.
Ali Bell, our Scottish national hockey player, represented the Scotland team that won a historic bronze medal at FIH Champions Challenge in June. The victory came after a tense 4-3 penalties win over Spain.
Heather Stanning, GB rower, has been selected for 2011 World Championship and has already secured over winning position in the 2011 World Cup Series – you can read more about her selection here
We’d also like to take this opportunity to welcome Jess Fishlock (Wales U19 football captain) and Alex Danson (GB Hockey) to our team. You can visit their profiles to learn more about them, and how they support young people to achieve their goals in life, education and sport.
These two amazing athletes join the team above, united by their support in Friend of EduSport. We are looking forward to working with them to inspire others to reach their potential.
Becky Maybury (a mediocre level of football and hockey - certainly no inspiration!)
