On January 4  2007,  International Development Secretary, Hilary Benn, and Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, launched the “World Classroom” , a publication encouraging UK schools to build links with their counterparts in the developing world. The British government has an ambitious programme to link every school and college in the UK to an overseas counterpart by 2010. (read or download the "World Classroom" PDF pamphlet here )
Friend Of EduSport’s link programme between Zambian and UK primary schools is designed to improve the quality of education for all schools involved.

Our programme is in the early stages of development.  However, we aim to support school improvement with head teacher training, district staff capacity building and school linking to its core with student pen pals.

Our principal objective is to provide a sustained improvement in the performance of pupils. It is important we can gauge this for future development. Therefore, Friend Of EduSport will document the annual Primary Leaving Examination results before and after a 2-year programme.

The benefits for UK schools begin with a pivotal role in the Zambian school development programme. Other clear benefits include a broadening and enrichment of the curriculum together with a greater support of its global dimension and a heightened cultural awareness.

Naledi Pandor, the South African Minister of Education said, “Partnerships should not be an end in itself. They should be a means to an end. And that end should be overall school improvement.”
